New mattress for our pop-up

The mattress in our pop-up has become hard as a rock, or am I am getting older and need a better mattress?  I would like to go thicker but you only have so much room before you hit the top when it closes.  I was thinking that a nice inflatable might be a good option pull the plug and you are ready to go.  Where do you find a good inflatable that is not going to pop your partner out the camper when you rollover.

Re: New mattress for our pop-up

It is a little pricy but we had a (queen?) 4-inch thick Thurma-Rest in the back of our pick up that was so comfortable, we looked forward to snoozing on it. Warm, comfy, and with the foam inside, it didn't hurt if it lost a little air at night. Self inflates most of the way. Finish by blowing up to the firmness you like (a matter of a few puffs). We had ours over three years before we sold the truck.

If there was a down side it was the size.  That means that when one of you get up the other one looses loft and isn’t as comfortable until puffing a little more air in. Awkward if you are laying on it.

Ours was mail-order from Cabella's but most big camping stores carry Thurma-Rest.

Re: New mattress for our pop-up

I'm not a fan of anything inflatable, too risky, even the most expensive can and will spring a leak. (Voice of experience.)  The memory foam toppers work well in a pop-up.  They will squish down and not create a problem when cranking your camper down.  I hear ya about the bed getting too hard.  We have even slept on the opposite end, which over the past 8 years has been used very little, nope still hard and not comfy. ~big gulp~ It's about getting older.

Re: New mattress for our pop-up

Ok ive tried an inflatable, hated it,made me sweat, hard to get in and out of bed .So I kept thinking . We were at the beach, got the surf mats out to go play in the water, well that was my answer, the red and blue canvas surf mats.It takes 3 of the longer mats for a queen bed,I place them under the old foam mattress and  it works GREAT,Ive been using the same mats for years now they are very durable, and patchable, best thing is they are thin, but give great  support, easy to blow up or they will fit with the top down.I have a bad back and need a good  bed. this has been a great cheap fix cool

Re: New mattress for our pop-up

I have been using inflatable Coleman King mattresses since 2005 in our popup.  We have a type that is either a tall twin, two separate twins or one king.  The mattresses are connected together in the middle and my husband and I can blow them up to the hardness/softness we like best.  We purchased them the year I was pregnant and camping because the mattresses were not comfortable.  We have been very happy with ours every year since.  I have a set on both bunkends, but only air up the end the kids sleep on if grandma comes with us, because the girls like to play in their bunk and I am concerned about them getting popped.  This is our sixth camping season with ours and I have no complaints!

We put a heated mattress pad on the air mattress with a fitted sheet on top of that.  They both stay on while blowing up the mattresses and while deflating!  The cool mattresses are nice in the summer and the heated mattress pads warm them up perfectly in the fall and spring.

Good luck finding something that will work for you!!!
